Open Water Diving Classes...

The YMCA has a long tradition of superior watermanship and safe scuba worldwide. NOW, in conjunction with The Dive Shop of Memphis, with over 40 years of experience, the YMCA is offering members an opportunity to experience the exciting world of Scuba.

Sign up at the Welcome Center to receive further information about the classes. Participants in the six-week course will receive open water diver certification from both the YMCA and Scuba Schools International upon successful completion of classroom, pool, and open water modules.

Now, in conjunction with the professionals of The Dive Shop, the YMCA of Memphis and the Mid South is offering a chance to experience the world of Scuba. Certification
Participants will receive DUAL CERTIFICATION from the YMCA and Scuba Schools International upon successful completion of classroom, pool, and open water modules. This water intensive course will provide students with the safest, most comprehensive program in the industry today and open the door to an exciting new lifestyle!

Cost
Several factors will determine your overall investment to become a certified scuba diver. You will receive the YMCA Scuba manual, the Scuba Schools International Open Water Diver manual, an interactive DVD, a SSI diver’s log book and SSI open water dive tables to begin your dive adventure. Class tuition and materials for the six-week program are available to YMCA members for $349, and to non-YMCA members for $399.

Equipment
In addition, participants are asked to provide mask, snorkel, fins and boots appropriate for scuba diving. The Dive Shop has specially designed equipment packages available and will be happy to help you select your personal dive equipment to enhance your dive experience and fit your personal budget. All other necessary equipment will be provided during confined water training.

Open Water
To complete your certification, you will need to complete a minimum of six open water dives accompanied by a certified dive instructor. These dives may be completed as close to home as Greer’s Ferry Lake or as far away as Palau or Thailand. The Dive Shop arranges dive travel throughout the world and will be happy to help you select an open water venue limited only by your imagination. Open water dives can be completed on a weekend trip or as part of a worldwide water sports adventure.
