Come out and watch a flick and float in the pool. This is fun for the whole family. Games, music, and snacks are also included.
All dive in movies will begin at 7pm. Each night will have a different theme to go along with the movie.
Registration will start the Monday before the dive in. Don’t forget your swim suits and smiles. See you there!

| USA Swim Team Information |
This is a competitive USA Swim team that is a part of Mississippi swimming. The team name is Desoto YMCA Swim Club (DYSC). DYSC is a registered USA swim team and is coached by a USA certified coach Barbara Weaver. There are two different seasons; Short course (25 yard) is September through February and long course (50 meter) is March through July. This team will travel to USA meets and compete. There are three different groups within our team:
Blue Group:
Ages 5-10
This is the entry level for competitive USA swimming. Students will be learning and developing the four competitive strokes. Also the fundamentals of competitive racing will be taught. It is highly recommended that these swimmers attend meets. Must be able to swim 25 yards free style and 25 yards backstroke.
White Group:
Ages 9-13
This is for swimmers who have mastered the 4 competitive strokes. Swimmers will develop endurance and perfect strokes. Aerobic conditioning and fine tuning of the strokes is emphasized. Also continue to work on racing strategies. Must be able to swim a legal 100 IM.
Red Group:
Ages 11-Up
This group is for swimmers with a good work ethic and desire for hard work. At this level they will increase practice time to further build endurance. Also will learn race strategies for events. Must have achieved BB/USA motivational times. Must be able to attend 3 swim meets per season.

Every team member must be a member of the YMCA.
USA Swimming registration fee : $ 48.00
This is a once a year fee that is paid the first time you
register. This also includes a t-shirt.
Monthly Fee:
Blue Group- $40.00
White Group- $45.00
Red Group- $50.00
Other fees:
The fees for meets, travel, uniforms, and equipment will be the responsibility of the member.

Recreational Swim Team 2008

Practices are held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (unless otherwise indicate). Practice will last for one hour.
Members can register for swim team sessions beginning at 8:00AM on Monday two weeks before the session. Sign for non members will open one week before the session starts. Registration will stay open until the first week of class ends. Class days and times are subject to change. Group classes may be cancelled if there are a small number of participants signed up for the session.

Our Recreational swim team is part of the Memphis Swim Conference, a developmental swim conference. This conference invites swimmers to compete in a fun, competitive environment, no matter what the skill level. The Electric Eels practice all year round and compete in both the Winter and the Summer Seasons. Our swim team is headed by Mindy Knight.

| Our recreational swim team, is part of a Summer Swim Program made up of other YMCAs in our association around the Memphis area. This is a fun way for youth to learn and better their competitive swimming skills. Swimmers of all skill level are encourage, but must be able to comfortably swim across the lap pool. |

| Recommendations |
| AGES: 5 - 21 |
Beginner: It is recommended that the participant be able to swim the length of the lap pool confidently and independently. This group will work on developing the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, Breaststroke, and butterfly), as well as, build confidence. |
Intermediate: Swimmer should be able to demonstrate the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, Breaststroke, and butterfly). This group will work our refinement of the competitive strokes, and endurance.

| What To Bring: Proper swim attire. Swim trunks and ONE piece swim suits are preferred (two piece may be worn, but should be secure for swimming laps). Goggles with an open nose are required (no diving mask). Towel. Bottled Water, sports drink, or sports bottle for water. Great spirit! |

Parent/Child: 6 months-3yrs
Shrimp/Kipper/Inia/Perch- A parent or guardian participates and accompanies the child by the direction of the instructor. This class is a fun class to get your young children acclimated to the water.
Preschool I: 4-5yrs
Pike- Students are taught how to be comfortable in the water. They will learn bobs, blowing bubbles, kicking, arm movements, floating, and they will begin to work on front and backstrokes.
Eel - Students will be required to complete 5 bobs by session end. They will be working in rhythmic breathing, kicking, over arm recovery, floating, jumping from wall and work on arm movements.
Preschool II: 4-5yrs
Rays-10 bobs must be completed by session end. Rotary breathing will be taught will kicking, along with the front and back float without bubble, back float and glide with kick, jump from the wall in the 5 foot depth, introduce kneeling dive, front crawl and back stroke.
Starfish-15 bobs must be completed by session end along with good arm movements, kicking and rotary breathing. They must accomplish a good front and back float. The elementary backstroke will be introduced.

Lesson length: 45 minutes
Registration for members will be the Friday before lessons begin and for non members the Saturday before lessons begin. Registration starts 8am and is held in tower located by the outdoor pool. Numbers will be handed out at these exact times and this will be the order you will register. If you arrive early please form a line and wait in line behind the orange cones. Thank you.
Class days and times are subject to change. There are no make up lessons unless other wise decided by the Aquatics Director. Group classes may be cancelled if there are less than three
participants signed up for class.

Youth I: 6-12yrs
Polliwogs - Swimmers will be taught bobs, front and back float, glide with kick, they will be introduced to arm movements and rotary breathing.
Guppy – Swimmers will learn to front float for 1 minute. Kick 50 yards front and back. Swim 25 yards front crawl non-stop. Elementary backstroke, back crawl and kneeling dives will be introduced
Youth II: 6-12yrs
Minnows- Endurance is increased in the front crawl and backstroke. Good form in the elementary backstroke will be accomplished. Standing dive will be introduced. Breaststroke will be introduced.
Fish - Front crawl in good form non-stop for 200 yards must be accomplished along with backstroke and elementary backstroke in good form. Breaststroke will be worked on. Dolphin kick will be introduced.
Adult: 12 and up
These lessons are for those who have never learned to swim and have always wanted to know how. Water acclimation and basic swimming skills are taught in this class. Will work with all skill levels and stroke development. |
